Here at Dublin’s Sandymount Hotel we’re anticipating a huge surge of female incomers to the city next month. Why we hear you ask – Michael Buble has just been. Yes, but there’s another attraction to get female hearts a thumping you see. And it’s called Dublin Fashion Festival.
This mega event just seems to get bigger with every year that passes and 2013 is no different. For as well as the latest in beauty and fashion, the good females of Dublin will also be au fait with the most up to date technology since this year’s sponsors and lead partner is none other than East Asian electronics giant Samsung, together with Mobile Ireland.. which just goes to show what an extravaganza this three day event has become!
Taking place from 5 to 8 September around and about the city, there will be a whole host of fashion luvvie events going on. These include live pop-up catwalk shows (naturally enough), in-store events and competitions where the best in young Irish design will compete in public to Samsung’s high tech street photo booths, flashmobs and a Beauty Bus set to tour Dublin’s streets and dish out know-how advice (as well as the odd lipstick we’re sure). There’ll also be a healthy collection of vintage fashion on show for those who are more 1950s and 60s inclined.
Put it this way, no young lady – or middle aged one for that matter – will be able to resist venturing in to town on those three days we’d surmise, especially with the knowledge there’ll be free goodie bags and impromptu make-overs, mini manicures and hair styling literally all over the place thanks to the properly posh Pampering Bus.
We’ve just heard too that so successful is the festival that it’s been guaranteed funding for the next five years – which says a lot we reckon.
This year’s event has already been launched – in July – when Irish fashion icon and TV presenter Laura Whitmore made the announcement Samsung would be partnering them. She also revealed more than 100 retailers were due to get involved this year including Dublin’s flagship stores such as Brown Thomas, Stephen’s Green, Arnotts, Llac SC, Jervis, Penney’s and Marks & Spencer.
One of the more popular events – the Mad Hatter’s Lunch is due to take place on Thursday, September 5 and we’d suggest you book up for this now as it’s going to be an afternoon of tailoring talk from Dublin’s main milliners. Not only that but it’ll be held in the fabulous Church Restaurant, bar and club venue.
And incidentally little fashion fans needn’t necessarily miss out either since the festival will include dress up boxes and fashion workshops in city shopping venues to keep them amused which their fashion fan mums and aunts do their own bits of exploring.
