Dublin Break – A New Year's Resolution

We would like to suggest that you make visiting Dublin a New Year's resolution. The city has so much to offer the visitor – from fantastic exhibitions, to buzzing bars and restaurants and super-duper shopping – there is so much to see, do and take part in. Here at the Sandymount Hotel, we offer a range of packages to suit the discerning traveller so why not check them out to find the package which suits you? Once you've got your hotel room booked, the next step is to plan your stay and work out what you want to do whilst you are here. Wicked image via  Fantastic Theatre and Entertainment January promises more of the great shows that Dublin is famous for. We have a proud history of great theatre and entertainment and the line-up for 2014 is impressive indeed. January can be a dull month for many as people struggle to cope with the cold, paying off the expenses of Christmas and bettering themselves with resolutions to lose weight, give up drinking and all of the other typical resolutions. A trip to Dublin and the theatre can fit in with any New Year's resolution though – we have great offers for hotel deals, and the theatre means you can have fun without over-eating over drinking or smoking. Ideal eh? Award-winning Theatre So what's on in January and beyond? Firstly, the award-winning theatre production of Wicked runs until 18 January at Dublin's Bord Gais Energy theatre. The show has been casting its magical spell over audiences for almost 10 years and it is a brilliant re-imagining of the story and characters from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. It's a captivating story and there are spectacular costumers and thrilling technical wizardry. The Costumes Parisiens: Fashion Plates from 1912 to 1914 exhibition at the Chester Beatty Library features almost 150 illustrations from the fashion magazine Journal des Dames des Modes (which ran from 19-12 to 1914). The magazine was in fact purchased by Chester Beatty and the illustrations are truly beautiful. What's more, this exhibition is free and therefore it can tick off two typical January New Year resolutions: save money AND do cultural things. Use Sandymount Hotel as Your Base There are many great shows coming to Dublin in 2014, so with the Sandymount Hotel as your base, you can enjoy the best that the theatre has to offer. The Bord Gais Energy theatre will be putting on Happy Days: A New Musical described as a hilarious, feel-good musical with lots of good tunes. Also at the same venue, Brendan Cole: Licence to Thrill is on 2 March. The Strictly Come Dancing star will be treating the audience to an evening of ballroom magic and Latin excitement. It promises to be a fab-U-lous evening. And finally on 13 April, the In Handel's Day celebration at Temple Bar highlights the composer George Frideric Handel's connections to Dublin, and the day will include musical and historical activities. Did you know, for example, that Handel's Messiah premiered at Fishamble Street in Temple Bar on 13 April 1742?
