With the school holidays making an appearance in April it’s always a good idea to have plenty of entertainment pre-planned to keep the kids happy (or at least out of your hair for some of the time). Here at the Sandymount Hotel we’ve been doing some research into events that are coming up in Dublin. So, if you’re visiting the city for a short spring-time break with the little ones, here are a few events to consider as all are sure to keep them amused and a smile on their darling little faces (even if it’s just having something to bribe them with): Potted Potter This international and smash hit comedy parody of Harry Potter is set to hit Dublin city for one week only on April 14 to 20 before moving on to its next global venue. Winner of the Best Entertainment & Family Show Olivier Award Nominee, it has impressive credentials. Although the show only lasts for just over one hour, it still manages to get all seven Harry Potter books into the sketch (including game of Quidditch – what do you mean you can’t play it?!). Organisers of the show reckon it will appeal to children as young as six right up to age 60. Tickets are available here The Battle of Clontarf Festival Little soldiers will love this event on April 19 and 20 and which is set to be the largest Viking village and living history battle re-enactment anywhere in Ireland. There is sure to be plenty of atmosphere as well as interactive and static displays of what Viking life was like in years of yore. A number of Viking occupations will be showcased including coin striking, leather working and storytelling. Alongside this will be archery demonstrations, falconry shows and some tips on mastering Viking chess. Then, of course, there is the Viking Long Boat to explore. www.clontarf.ie/2014 Peppa Pig's Big Splash Well, if anyone was going to be making a splash of any size, it was always going to be Peppa wasn’t it? This time Peppa and pals discover that their nursery roof is leaking water. And, as usual, in order to save up money to pay for the repair work they’ll need some sing-a-long audience help to keep their spirits up. The cast, at the Olympia Theatre, includes George, Mummy and Daddy Pig. Then there is Danny Dog, Pedro Pony and Suzy Sheep. One of the best bits of the show, we think, is the Champion Puddle Jumping competition. This involves lots of water, a pair of missing Golden Boots and some strict adjudicated from Mr Potato. On May 10 and 11 this misses out our April dates but we thought it was such a scream that there was no way we could miss it out.
