As the capital’s oldest family-run, independent hotel The Sandymount Hotel has been a hub of Dublin life for 70 years. It is a hidden gem, located between the beautiful leafy suburb of Ballsbridge and the seaside coastal village Sandymount. Sandymount Village
Just a few minutes’ walk from The Sandymount Hotel lies Sandymount Village considered one of Dublin’s prettiest villages and known for its long and breezy beach, Sandymount Strand.
Sandymount is a favourite spot of Dublin locals for revitalising walks along the seafront with views across Dublin Bay whilst the village itself is renowned for its wonderful blend of boutiques, restaurants, and gastropubs.
If it’s beautiful quality shopping you’re after, independent boutiques such as the Cobblers Wardrobe and Serena Boutique have a stunning selection of women’s clothing for every occasion.
And foodies will delight in the high-quality dining experiences marked by a friendly, local feel. Browne’s offers a great selection of brunch and lunch options, or head to BuJo for wonderfully juicy, ethically sourced burgers. The Pete’s of Sandymount bistro is a sure-fire hit with its fantastic offering of European favourites, while O’Reilly’s and Mulligans are perfect for after-dinner drinks and light bites drenched in that authentic local pub feel.
The birthplace of world famous Irish poet Willam Butler Yeats and a strolling spot for protagonist Leopold Bloom in James Joyce’s Ulysses, Sandymount has a rich cultural history that takes you off the beaten track of the city centre and along the Dublin coast where there are plenty of other stops within easy reach of The Sandymount Hotel’s convenient DART station which will see you whisked off on day trips to the beautiful seaside villages of Howth and Malahide, Dun Laoghaire, Dalkey or Killiney.
Ballsbridge Village
The Sandymount Hotel is proudly located in the exclusive, Dublin 4 village of Ballsbridge; an affluent neighbourhood that the city’s aristocracy at one point called home. It’s wide tree-lined streets and beautiful Victorian architecture are now part of a lively area where embassies and offices sit alongside upscale boutiques and bistros.
Being located as close to the Aviva Stadium as you can get, and near to the RDS Arena, the streets fill up with fans when there’s rugby, football matches or a big concert in town, bringing the charming village’s many bars and restaurants alive with good-natured banter and excitement.
Baggot Street is always abuzz with pubs hosting live bands, Merrion Road is lined with sports bars, restaurants and independent shops, while the stunning Herbert Park is home to a fine cafe, a lively market and some beautiful trails to ramble along.
Situated on the River Dodder, Ballsbridge is just 3km southeast of Dublin city centre, close to the Grand Canal and with easy connections into the city by bus and DART train giving guests of The Sandymount Hotel the best of both worlds.
